Itinerary

Day 1 — Bukhara (Uzbekistan) → Turkmenabat → Ashgabat

Meet in the lobby of a hotel in Bukhara, Uzbekistan, and drive together to the Farap border post in Turkmenistan's Lebap region. Sightseeing in Turkmenabat, then board the overnight sleeper train to Ashgabat.

Day 2 — Ashgabat

Arrive in the capital and explore its surreal white-marble landmarks: the State Museum, Independence Park, Arch of Neutrality, Constitution Monument, "Älem" Ferris wheel, Wedding Palace, and Magtymguly Pyragy Park.

Overnight: Ashgabat Hotel

Day 3 — Ashgabat → Turkmenbashy

More of Ashgabat: Ertogrul Ghazy Mosque, Lenin Park, the amusement park, and an optional stop at the city's lively bazaars. Evening sleeper train to the Caspian coast.

Overnight: Train to Turkmenbashy

Day 4 — Turkmenbashy → Yangykala Canyon → Balkanabat

Arrive in the port city of Turkmenbashy, then drive to the spectacular layered cliffs of Yangykala Canyon. Continue to Balkanabat for sightseeing before the overnight train back toward Ashgabat.

Day 5 — Ashgabat → Kow-Ata → Derweze

Visit the Halk Hakydasy Memorial Complex, swim in the Kow-Ata underground thermal lake, see the grand Turkmenbashy Ruhy Mosque, and meet the famed Ahal-Teke horses. Reach the Garagum Desert for the unforgettable Darvaza Gas Crater ("Gates of Hell") at night. Sleep in a traditional Turkmen yurt.

Overnight: Gates of Hell Yurt

Day 6 — Derweze → Departure

Morning view of the craters, then drive north to the Dashoguz region and depart via Dashoguz border post. End of trip.

Do I need a visa?
Yes, Turkmenistan requires a visa with a letter of invitation. We arrange the letter and guide you through the process. The visa fee itself is not included.
Where does the trip start and end?
We meet in Bukhara, Uzbekistan, cross the border together, and the trip ends at the Dashoguz border post in the north. Most travellers continue back into Uzbekistan from there, and we can help you plan either side of the trip.
How do I book?
Pick your trip, pay the deposit or full amount securely via Revolut, and your spot is confirmed. No forms, no waiting.
What's your cancellation policy?
Deposits are non-refundable. More than 90 days before departure: everything except the deposit refunded. 31–90 days: 50% refund. 30 days or fewer: non-refundable. All cancellations subject to a $50/€50 admin fee. Full details in our Terms & Conditions.
Do I need travel insurance?
Yes. Comprehensive travel insurance including medical cover and repatriation is required for all trips.
Are flights included?
No. You arrange flights to and from the start point; we handle everything on the ground.
Who travels with Infamous?
Small groups of around 10, mostly solo travellers in their 20s and 30s. You'll leave with friends.
When is the balance due?
45 days before departure.
